Ana Ivis Maxwell (Annie) was born in Guines, Cuba. At the age of 10 she immigrated to the United States with her parents and sister. The family settled in Miami, Florida. This experience provided her with a profound understanding of the Caribbean with an American insight, which influences her work deeply. Annie was aware of her artistic abilities and aspirations at a young age.
